Citrus aurantifolia 

Limes are grown for their oil in Florida, Mexico, Italy and the West Indies. Limes, like lemons were originally given to British sailors who ate the fruit to reduce the risk of scurvy: Hence the name, 'limey'. Today it is used as a flavouring in food and drink and a fragrance in cleansers and toiletries.

Source: Citrus aurantifolia is sourced from Mexico.

Extraction: Lime essential oil is distilled from the highly acidic juice-emulsion that results from crushing the small sour whole fruits of Citrus aurantifolia rutaceae.

Aroma:
Lime essential oil has a sharp, sweet citrus peel scent.

Top.

Properties:
Lime essential oil is antiseptic, anti-bacterial and astringent. It has an uplifting fragrance and is a good warming, stimulant tonic. It helps to balance and tone the skin.

Uses:
Massage, baths, vaporization and may be added to base emollients. Lime Essential Oil makes an excellent warming bath in winter, or a refreshing energising bath in summer.

It can be applied as a poultice for fever or inhaled to relieve congestion.

Blends well with:
Citronella, Clary Sage, Jasmine, Lavender, Neroli, Nutmeg, Orange, Peppermint, Rosemary, Vanilla and Ylang Ylang.

Caution:
Lime essential oil should be used in moderation as it may irritate skin, especially if it is exposed to sunshine after application. Always ensure proper dilution. Store in a cool dark place.
