Essential Oil info recipes self care

Knowing what products to use on your face can be tricky. But it’s much easier when you understand your skin type. In this month’s blog post, we’ll look at the best essential oils, carrier oils, and other products for dry, oily, and combination skin.

Essential oils

For dry skin, you can’t do better than geranium oil. It helps soothe, tone, and nourish skin without being too harsh. Some essential oils can actually dry skin out, due to their concentrated scent. Start by adding a few drops to your daily moisturiser.

Oily skin often requires an oil with clarifying, declogging properties. Tea tree oil has long been known for its spot fighting powers and is an excellent choice if you need to take control of natural oils. Try a few drops mixed in with your favourite cleanser.

If you fall under the combination skin category, try patchouli oil. The astringent properties help to manage oils and tackle blemishes. It can also help to tighten large pores -  a classic trait of combination skin. Try a few drops blended with your usual toner.

Carrier oils

Dry skin needs deeper moisturising, and that’s why coconut oil is a great choice. As a non-comedogenic base oil, there’s no risk of coconut oil bringing you out in spots. It absorbs quickly into the skin, so you won’t feel oily or greasy during the day.

It’s a common misconception that oily skin doesn’t need moisturising. But moisturising oily skin correctly can actually reduce the greasiness! Jojoba oil has a similar composition to sebum, which means it blends into the skin quickly, without leaving an oily feel.

Combination skin is likely to have breakouts and redness. Grapeseed oil is an anti-inflammatory, so it reduces redness and congestion. This oil also soaks in really quickly, so you won’t have to wait around before applying other products.

Extra products

Our base cream is a real treat for dry skin. It has a heavier consistency than most moisturisers, to really indulge the skin. You can even add your favourite essential oils, of course we recommend geranium, to truly nourish your skin. Apply before bed, and allow to work its magic overnight.

Oily skin can often need a refreshing pick-me-up. Our orange flower water can be misted on before applying makeup, and during the day to rebalance oils and tone greasy skin. This clarifying mist can also help to treat problem skin, and reduce breakouts.

Clogged pores are a key trait of combination skin. Tea tree and manuka cream is a natural antiseptic, and tea tree has long been known for its clarifying, acne-fighting properties. Apply our tea tree and manuka cream as the last step in your skincare regime before going to bed.

Time to make a start on your new skincare regime! We’d love to hear about how you’re using these products, and how well they’re working for you. Drop us a message or tag us in your posts on Facebook and Instagram.
