VALERIAN ROOT (Valeriana officinalis)

Valerian Root Essential Oil is obtained by steam distillation of the root and rhizome.

The pure oil is clear yellow and has an earthy, slightly sweet scent.

Valerian Root has a similar chemical composition to Catnip and has been used as a replacement.

CAUTION:

Valerian Root Essential Oil should always be diluted to 5% or less in a suitable carrier oil before using.
At low doses it appears to be non-toxic and non-irritating but it has possible skin sensitizing properties.
It should not be used on children or during pregnancy.
There are reports claiming that overuse may cause lethargy.
