PATCHOULI OIL (Pogostemon cablin)
PATCHOULI (Pogostemon cablin)
Patchouli Essential Oil is obtained by steam distillation of the dried leaves and shoots of the
bushy herb.
It is cultivated in India, China, Indonesia, Malaysia and South America.
Patchouli has been a much-prized herb in the East since ancient times. It was used to scent linen and clothes.
It reached the West in the 19th century when it was used to perfume paisley shawls.
It is still used extensively in modern perfumery and was worn alone as the symbol of peace and love by hippies
during the sixties.
Pure Patchouli essential oil has a woody, earthy, sweet smell that is pungent and persistent.
It stimulates in small amounts
and sedates when used more generously.
It is a heady, sensual oil.
USES:
Massage, baths, inhalation, poultice,
compress.
Patchouli Essential Oil makes
a relaxing or energising body massage, a therapeutic head and scalp massage
and a good oily-skin facial.
A few drops in the bath will stimulate
if used in moderation, or sedate if used in larger amounts.
CAUTION:
Patchouli essential
oil is perfectly safe for home use as long as it is diluted before application.
