Juniper Essential Oil (Juniperus communis)
JUNIPER (Juniperus communis)
SOURCE: Croatia
Juniper Essential Oil is extracted
from the fresh berries of the evergreen juniper tree.
It is native to northern Europe and is grown commercially in Scandinavia, Italy, Spain and Canada.
Juniper berries were used by the ancient Egyptians and Greeks to ward off infections and in England juniper was burnt to scare off witches or demons. Today the berries are most commonly used to flavour gin.
Juniper essential oil smells like pine but with a hot, peppery edge.
It is diuretic, antiseptic, uplifting but relaxing.
USES:
Massage, baths, inhalation, compress,
poultice.
Add a few drops to the
bath for a relaxing soak that will lift spirits. It is also a good germ-killer
to burn in a sick room.
CAUTION:
Juniper Essential oil is perfectly safe for home use if well diluted but should never be used during pregnancy as it can trigger labour.
